Congestion reports

As soon as the grid in a certain area becomes full, there is a transport shortage. The grid operator is then obliged to conduct a congestion management study. Such a study is conducted among large business customers with an electricity connection greater than 3x80 amps. The investigation examines whether it is possible to temporarily increase or decrease the amount of electricity generated or consumed by generation and/or consumption installations. In addition, the type of congestion (e.g. too much or too little electricity transmission), the station and the availability of flexible capacity play a role in determining whether or not congestion management can be implemented.

Rules ACM

The investigation will be conducted entirely in accordance with the rules established by the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM). Once congestion management proves feasible, the space that becomes available will be distributed among existing and new users of the electricity grid. If congestion management is not feasible, the only solution will be to expand or upgrade the grid.

For information about current regional studies, please visit the websites of Stedin, Liander and Enexis. The reports can be found below. Rendo and Coteq have not yet submitted any reports.

The reports from the national grid operator TenneT are available on the website of Tennet.
